A brief history of Cartomancy

Throughout history, man has tried to know his future with diverse and varied predictions practices: the sky, the rocks, the bones, while its environment has given rise to interpretations that have been refined over the centuries and cumulative experiences. Cartomancy was born with the invention of playing cards in the second part of the 18th century, although there are some traces from the 15th century in Spain and Italy. It is with the Enlightenment that this practice extended in France.

The different card decks

Cartomancy requires support: cards and it is, in this, very different from clairvoyance which requires no external object. You need no special gift to spread the cards, except for some intuition and a game that corresponds to your temperament.

The first thing to do is to choose your card deck, according to your tastes and felt the faces proposed. There is a multitude of different card decks but the principle is always the same: spread and interpret the result obtained according to each card. Practice and experience allow the tarot reader to constantly refine his/her methods and perceptions. If there are many spread methods, anyone can "invent" his/her own, as long as he/she gives a precise meaning to each card and sticks to it. It's a question of practice.

Spreading methods

In general, the cards are available in range and the consultant selects one, two or more cards that will have the tarot reader on the table (it may be the same person). These cards are then interpreted in the light of the order of appearance, location (right, left, up, down), position (at or inverted) and the type of question. Because the cartomancy does not serve only to predict the future, it can also, with certain card decks and particular methods, serve to describe a person, his/her temperament, strengths and weaknesses.

Of course, cartomancy is not an exact science and its credibility depends a lot on the practitioner, his/her experience and honesty. To start, always choose a card deck that "speaks" to you with its graphics, its symbolism, and its colors.

For example, with a classic card deck, we usually associate each color with a particular domain:
- Heart cards refer to sentimental issues.
- Clubs cards symbolize money and material goods.
- Diamond cards represent the projects.
- Spades cards indicate problems, enemies or significant changes.
